I am an active member of our PTSA general and executive board meetings. I have been able to build strong relationships with this team and because of that I gained PTSA support in providing donations for our House Council Fall Dance, 8th Grade Field Trip, and Love the Bus Week. I am understanding how valuable strong partnerships are with the parent community.

I helped plan a successful Curriculum Expo for Alston Ridge Middle School. Typically these events are poorly attended as it is early in the school year and similar to Meet the Teacher Night. We decided to do things differently, which allowed parents to sign up for meaningful sessions that would help them better understand our curriculum and processes within the school. This link provides feedback that we collected from our parents in order to continue improving our structures.

In preparation for our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, I designed a community outreach letter to elicit donations. We successfully built community partnerships through this initiative. One strong partnership is with Sheetz, who has been willing to donate to a number of our school events since this invitation. The event was extremely successful in bringing in community members and celebrating the official opening of our school.

Standard VIb - Federal, State, and District Mandates

I attended a Student Due Process training for administrators to understand the important district mandates when it comes to discipline. This opportunity coupled with CPI Training helped me have success in giving students their due process during disciplinary events. As a school, we collaborate effectively prior to making a determination on suspension of a student.

I also attended a training on being an LEA during IEP meetings. While I gained some knowledge from this training, the most effective experience that I have had this year is attending IEP meetings with various case managers and administrators at my school. Our school designed our own minutes document to ensure that we are following all protocols required during an IEP meeting. I have been practicing taking minutes and learned when to ask specific questions of stakeholders. Due to confidentiality laws, I am not sharing a copy of IEP meeting minutes as an artifact.

I collaborated with one of the APs this year to write our Emergency Operations Plan. After we attended a required training, we went back to school to ensure that decisions we made followed local mandates in preparation for our lockdown drill and tabletop exercise. Along with this role, I have assisted in fire drills and other required events that must occur on campus.
